About Arujá Golf Clube

Created and mainly aimed at the Japanese community living in the capital of São Paulo, the Arujá Golf Clube is one of the state’s most traditional golf clubs. The club was born through the gathering of several friends who bought an 86.5 acre land in 1961, in Vale do Paraiba.

The club’s official opening was on June 24, 1965. The first nine holes were inaugurated three years later, when the first official tournament took place in Arujá Golf Clube. In 1976, the course got 18 holes and begin to host increasingly larger and more important competitions.

The course’s layout, with flat holes and others with bumps in the tens of meters, requires a lot of strategy from golfers. No wonder Arujá is considered the breeding ground of great pros in Brazilian golf, like Acácio Jorge Pedro, who was first in the Brazilian ranking for several years. Therefore it has already host major tournaments, such as the LG Vivo PGA Championship, which has been the main Brazilian golf competition for many years.

The Arujá Golf Clube Opens is equally traditional, which, besides being considered for the amateur ranking in São Paulo, always counts with today’s mayor pros competitions.

Par 72, 7020 yards from the black tee, the longest one, the course has seven natural and artificial lakes and is surrounded by tress native to the Atlantic forest and other species such as pine trees, araucaria trees, cherry trees and Caribbean royal palm trees. It’s 6526 yards long from the blue tee, 5891 yards from the shite and 5806 yards from the red tee. It is taken as quite challenging course.

The course’s most difficult hole is the 3rd, 557 yards par 5 from the black tee, 537 yards form the blue tee and 495 yards from the white and red tees. Another quite challenging hole on front nine is the 9th, another par 5, 543 yards from the black tee with fairway surrounded by trees and lake to the right of the fairway next to the green, that may inhibit riskier shots.

On back nine, highlight for the 11th hole, 412 yards par 4 with fairway surrounded by pine trees on both sides – a wrong opening shot may become troublesome to the golfer.

The other three final holes assure exciting championship finals. The 16th hole is a difficult 217-yards par 3. The 17th hole, 618 yards par 5, is the course’s longest hole. The 18th hole, a short par 4, only 314 yards long from the farthest tee. Therefore, many players – mainly those having to risk more to try victory – try getting closer to the green, which is located after a left dogleg on the first shot.

In 2014, Arujá inaugurated the Kids Space, an area to motivate partners’ children to play golf. Besides lessons, children are served by a fitness coach, psychologist and nutritionist – all rendered by former juvenile golfers from Arujá Club.
